Photoelectron-photoion coincidence spectroscopy of ethanol in intense UV and NIR laser fields

Itakura, Ryuji

no journal, ,

We investigate photoionization of ethanol (C$$_{2}$$H$$_{5}$$OH) and subsequent electronic excitation in intense ultraviolet and near-infrared laser fields. Coincidence detection of an electron and a product ion allows us to separate the ionization and subsequent excitation. We clearly reveal how the pathway to the electronically excited state of C$$_{2}$$H$$_{5}$$OH$$^{+}$$ changes depending on the characteristics of laser fields such as wavelength, intensity, and pulse duration.

We developed the soft X-ray laser interferometer synchronized with Ti:Sapphire laser pulse for the measurement of the nanometer-scaled surface dynamics. The soft X-ray laser is suitable for probing the initial process of the surface morphological changes, because it has the suitable wavelength (= 13.9 nm), short duration (= 7 ps) and large photon numbers. By using this system, we succeed to obtain the temporal evolution of ablation front erupting from the laser induced Pt film. From this result, it was revealed that the expansion speed of the ablation front decreased continually from the center (= 2200 m/s) to the edge (= 420 m/s) of the ablation area in the initial stage of the ablation process.

Modeling radiative properties of high-Z multiple charged ions

Sasaki, Akira

no journal, ,

A collisional radiative model of tungsten is developed for the investigations of radiative properties of high-Z multiple charged ions. The model is validated by comparing the calculation with theoretical and experimental results, and is shown to give a reasonable prediction of the mean charge and radiative power loss from the tungsten plasma.

no journal, ,

Recent progress on the laser-driven coherent X-ray generation in Kizu-site of quantum beam science directorate is presented. Especially, the polarization measurement of transient collisional excitation laser at the wavelength of 13.9 nm and theoretical investigation of amplification gain coefficient of photo-pumping X-ray laser using intense characteristic X-rays are presented. We also report the X-ray laser interferometer dedicated to the study of nano-scale dynamics of substances in which the soft X-ray laser is used as a probe beam.
